So I happened to be perusing the archives at MLB.com just trying to see if I had somehow missed a story in the past month. I’m not exactly sure how I could miss a story since I read that site and the Diamondbacks sites daily if for no other reason then to remind myself that reporting day for pitchers and catchers is only 22 days away. Granted it is the longest 22 days of my life but looking at the bright side it is better than yesterday. Yesterday I was 23 days away from the beginning of Spring Training so today is a lot better. So anyway I happened to be looking through the old stories on the Major League Baseball web site and I ran across one from January 2, 2007. The title was Gear up for baseball at fan fests. Intrigued by the title I began to read the article. It talked about how several teams hold annual fan celebrations in the winter.
I read as they talked about the Cardinals, Orioles, Cubs, Tigers, Giants, White Sox, Twins, Pirates, Mariners, Athletics, Angels, and even the Devil Rays. Some of these fan conventions seemed fairly elaborate while others appeared to be soft spoken and simple events. In the last paragraph something struck me like a Miguel Batista wild pitch.
The Diamondbacks will continue to introduce their new colors at its FanFest Feb. 24 at Chase Field. The event marks the first time the general public can purchase regular-season single-game tickets for the 2007 season. Fans will get the chance to meet their favorite D-backs players, collect some autographs and participate in fun activities for the entire family.
What did that say? I had to read it and re-read it to make sure I completely understood the implications. The Diamondbacks are going to have a FanFest at Chase Field? Why didn’t anybody tell me about this? I quickly rushed over to the Diamondbacks web site to try and find more details about this event. I went through every Diamondbacks press release from November 2007 through January 2007 and no where was the FanFest even mentioned. The event is only a month away and this is all the detail that I have. There is so much to do, I am not sure I can be ready in time. I have to make up an excuse to tell Trina why I need to be downtown, I need to get a new baseball and pen for Dakota, I have to make a shopping list of things I need from the team shop, I have to find the promotions schedule for the Diamondbacks so I know which games I will be taking the family to, and let’s not forget trying to find a parking spot for February 24. There are going to be thousands of people just like me down there so parking will be next to impossible. Oh man, this is going to be a long month waiting for February 24 to arrive.
