Another Letter from Home

When the Arizona Diamondbacks are on the road I feel kind of like a kid who lost his best friend. I wander around a lot and don't exactly know what to do with myself. It seems so foreign to watch a game on television. I never know exactly how to act. I try sitting in my Chase Field seats with my seat cushion thinking maybe it will make me feel like I am at the game but it never seems to work out. Maybe it's because Trina keeps yelling at me every time I throw peanut shells on her floor. I keep telling her that she doesn't have to worry because there are people who come in after every game and hose things down before the gates open for the next game. She insists that a) people do not come in and clean our house and b) there are no gates to open. Oh and please quit asking to see people's tickets every time someone rings our door bell. The neighbors are starting to question what is wrong with me. So I am forced to sit on the couch and watch a game without peanuts or a stadium. How do people do that?
It's probably just as well that the Diamondbacks are out of town. I would probably be near suicidal if I were forced to watch these last two games in person. In both cases the Diamondbacks got great starting pitching only to see the bullpen (in this case Chad Qualls) melt down and for the second time in a week the Diamondbacks have lost a series. At least with the Mets series it was somewhat suspenseful before Qualls blew the save in the final game of the series. I know it's a long season but three blown saves in 6 days makes me wonder if perhaps Qualls may need a day off to regroup.
I was kind of despondent after this loss today and just kind of wandered from room to room. Finally I decided maybe what I needed was to go for a walk. Since no one had gotten the mail yet I decided to walk down to the mailbox. I had no preconceived notion that I would find anything other than maybe a few bills in the mail; like that was going to help my mental state. When I retrieved the envelopes from the box there was a large white envelope with a Sedona Red flap. What was this; a letter from home? My interest was piqued and my emotions took an immediate jump to the positive side. The walk from the mailbox back to the house was much brighter and I definitely had a little more bounce in my step. I went to the kitchen and retrieved my Diamondbacks letter opener (everyone has one of those don't they?). I gently opened the envelope and retrieved the contents. Enclosed was a black Diamondbacks folder and attached to the front with a paper clip was a note from Diamondbacks President Derrick Hall.

Derrick Hall
President Arizona Diamondbacks
I sat there reading and re-reading the note. I love this idea! I have long thought it would be awesome to have a single contact within the Diamondbacks to get answers to my seat questions. And believe me; I have a lot of questions. You would think that being a season ticket holder for this long that I would have gotten answers to all of my questions but that just doesn't seem to be the case. I started thinking back at all the things I have always wondered about something or another but didn't have a contact to answer my questions. Now I had a dedicated Season Ticket Services executive. Then I started feeling sorry for my representative as I am sure he has no idea what he is about to get himself into. I think perhaps Derrick Hall should have taken this person aside and explained to him that he was about to earn every penny of his salary just in having to deal with me. I don't try to be a pain or high-maintenance but I think maybe I am a little more so than the average fan. I'm delusional since I keep telling myself that all the questions I ask are for the good of fans not just because I am curious but I just don't know. Still, this looks to be a great program and I can hardly wait to get started. Inside the folder were additional data points along with a map of Chase Field divided up by Season Ticket Service Executive. I went through the map and the associated key and found the name assigned to Section 112. I then went through the welcome letter and realized that my assigned executive is different than what the map shows. Hmm, maybe Derrick did talk to these guys and I was assigned to the Special Needs category of high maintenance fans. I may have to send a letter and a box of chocolates with an advance apology for what I will probably put him through.
I am pretty excited about this. I think this is a great idea and one that differentiates the Diamondbacks from any other franchise I have ever come in contact with. Not only are they putting together a first class family destination at Chase Field but they are taking care of their customers and offering unprecedented customer service. This is just another reason why I recommend to everyone to become a Diamondbacks season ticket holder. Not only do you get great seats but you get your very own Season Ticket Services Executive. It's like having a limited edition bobble head that can answer questions and help you out when you need information.
