Augie, Augie, Augie

One of the unheralded benefits of being an Arizona Diamondbacks season ticket holder is the fact that you are allowed to get into the stadium 30 minutes before the general public for Saturday home games. You wouldn’t think that would be a big deal but on days like today it is a godsend.

Today was supposed to be Tony Pena bobble head day according to the Arizona Diamondbacks promotional schedule that was released before the season began. That of course all changed when the Diamondbacks traded Pena to the Chicago White Sox for first base prospect Brandon Allen.

With the departure of Pena the Diamondbacks marketing staff had to scramble to find an alternative. What they ended up deciding was to move the FAN VOTE Bobble Head from September 26 to September 12.

This meant that the Augie Ojeda bobble head day would no longer be the last Saturday game during Fandemonium but would instead be two weeks earlier. The team would then use the September 26 game to include another FAN VOTE Bobble Head choosing the fans second choice, Mark Reynolds.

That would all have worked out fine except for a little thing called Typhoon Moracot that has postponed the delivery of the Augie bobble head. So instead of the first 25,000 fans receiving a boxed Augie Ojeda bobble head they instead were given a voucher that they may redeem for a bobble head doll once they arrive.

Diamondbacks season ticket holders have a distinct advantage over the other fans on bobble head days. Since the Diamondbacks always hold bobble head days on Saturdays the season ticket holders are nearly guaranteed getting a bobble head since they can get into the stadium before the general public.

I cannot tell you how much stress that takes away not having to worry whether or not you will be one of the first 25,000 fans through the gates. We merely go down early and go to Gate A and show our Season Ticket Holder cards and are escorted through the gates where we are given the bobble heads or in this case the vouchers.

After receiving the voucher I slowly walked down the nearly deserted concourse over to our seats. The kids went down to the wall and watched the Diamondbacks during batting practice. Today they were fortunate and bench coach Kirk Gibson came over and visited signing a few autographs for the season ticket holders.

Just another in a long line of great services that the Arizona Diamondbacks provide to their season ticket holders. While this season is nearly complete, it’s not too early to begin thinking about next season. I highly recommend calling the Diamondbacks and becoming a season ticket holder. I know Augie would agree if his bobble head were actually here.
