Diamondbacks Set Minor League Coaching Staffs

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced their minor league coaching staffs for each of the team’s minor league affiliates. Many of the coaches are familiar names to anyone who has followed the Arizona Diamondbacks farm system but there were a few surprises.

The Reno Aces are returning their entire coaching staff from 2009. They will be led by manager Brett Butler who returns for his sixth season with the organization. He will be joined by Mike Parrott who will again be the pitching coach in Reno. Rick Burleson will be the hitting coach for the second season.

The Mobile BayBears will have a new skipper in 2010 with Rico Brogna taking over as manager. He will be joined by a couple of former Diamondbacks players who are now coaching. Dan Carlson will be the pitching coach while Turner Ward will be the Double-A hitting coach.

Single Class-A Visalia Rawhide will be managed by Audo Vicente who has been the manager of Rookie Missoula Osprey for the past two years. He will be joined by former Diamondbacks pitcher Erik Sabel who will be the pitching coach a post he held with the South Bend Silver Hawks the past two years. Visalia will have Alan Zinter as the hitting coach for the second consecutive season.

The Single-A South Bend Silver Hawks will be managed by Mark Haley for the sixth season. Wellington Cepeda will be the pitching coach in South Bend coming from Visalia. The hitting coach will be Francisco Morales who held that job the past three years.

The Advanced-A Yakima Bears will be managed by Bob Didier for the third season. His hitting coach will be Andy Abad who held that job last season. The pitching coach for Yakima is former major league pitcher Doug Drabek who is new to the organization.

The Rookie-Advanced Missoula Osprey will be managed by Hector de la Cruz who has been the manager of the Mobile BayBears the past two seasons. He will be joined by Jason Hardtke as the hitting coach and Gil Heredia as the pitching coach.

Besides the coaching staffs the Diamondbacks also announced others on their player development staff. Mike Bell will be the fielding coordinator, Jeff Pico as the pitching coordinator, Dave Hansen as hitting coordinator, Tony Perzchica as infield coordinator, Joel Youngblood as outfield/baserunning coordinator, Bill Plummer as catching coordinator, Hatuey Medoza as Latin liaison, P.J. Mainville as medical coordinator, Jimmy Sothard as assistant medical, Brett McCabe as strength coordinator, Bob Bensinger as complex coordinator, and Ben Dorgan as clubhouse assistant.
