Each season the Arizona Diamondbacks sponsors “Mystery Ball night at Chase field. In the rotunda near the team shop will be tables set up lined with black paper sacks the size of lunch sacks.
Fans are able to purchase one of these sacks for $40 with all proceeds going to the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, the charity arm of the team. Inside the sack is an autographed baseball signed by an Arizona Diamondbacks player or a Major League Baseball player from another team.
This is always a fun event that my son looks forward to each season. After paying his money he will scour the tables looking for just the right grab bag. He will then carefully open the sack to see who has signed his baseball.
Over the years he has done quite well. Last season he received a Dan Haren baseball and the season before that it was Brandon Webb. It is always exciting to see the look on his face when he gently opens the sack and gazes inside at the contents.
This year he is keeping his fingers crossed that he will be able to score a Justin Upton autographed baseball. Personally I am hoping he is one of the few lucky fans that score a team-autographed ball.
Regardless of the autograph received it is a great event with all proceeds going to the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation. It is a chance for fans to give to those less fortunate while receiving a piece of autographed memorabilia.
