The Waiting and the Worrying Begins

Spring Training has been underway for nearly a month. Pitchers and catchers are working hard to build up arm strength and hitters are putting in extra practice in the batting cages honing their timing.

From a front office perspective Season Ticket renewal has been completed. The FanFest has been held at Chase Field and by all accounts was another success. The promotional schedule has been released and the ticket office is now selling individual game tickets.

The Team Shop has begun to receive merchandise for the upcoming season. Concessionaires have been identified and are finalizing their menus before the first game of the year. Looking around everything seems to be ready.

Only one thing remains before the season can officially begin, the Season Tickets have to be delivered. One of the benefits of being a Diamondbacks Season Ticket Holder is the fact that the tickets are not just printed on standard white or Sedona Red card stock.

The Season Tickets are bound in a book with photos on the front of each game ticket representing some aspect of the team or season. On some there will be pictures of the players while others may show some point of interest in the stadium. Still others show the fans and loyalty they have for the team.

I have never thought of myself as a model and there is a reason why I don’t do a video blog. Still there is a part of me that prays one year when I open that book of tickets I will be represented with my picture on one of the tickets.

Some people aspire to be carved in stone by sculptors while others dream of being painted by an artist. Still others dream of being seen on television or quoted in a newspaper. As for me, my dream is to have my face on a Diamondbacks baseball ticket. What could possibly be cooler than that for a diehard fan?

Today I received an email from the Arizona Diamondbacks notifying me that my season tickets would be arriving any time after today. I really struggle with emails such as this. On the one hand I am very grateful that the team lets me know to be watching for the package.

On the other hand it is an awful lot like sending your daughter out on her first date. You know she is now grown up and that you have taught her what to do and what not to do but you can’t help wonder is she is ever going to come back.

So like the father of a teenage daughter I will spend the night pacing the floor worrying and wondering where she is at and playing over and over in my head what I am going to do if she comes home and I find out she was not taken care of appropriately.

In the back of my mind I cringe at the thought of anyone damaging my baby and wonder what the equivalent of a shotgun wedding is for a package of season tickets. I can already tell this is going to be a very long day and night for me. I knew I should have put a curfew on those season tickets.
