Writing a blog can sometimes be a lonely endeavor. You think you have interesting content. You research topics or get ideas for what you should write. You devote time and energy to putting it together. You post something for the world to see then you wonder if anyone even notices.

This blog is not a money-making endeavor. I don’t sell advertising, nor do I worry about things such as Search Engine Optimization or any of those other things that you are supposed to do in order for your page to be ranked appropriately on Google. As a result of not doing any of these things I am always a little surprised that people actually find my site or read my entries.

I always thought that I probably had 2 readers of this blog. Me because I needed to make sure that the article actually published and my mom because mom’s always support their kids. With my mom passing away a couple of years ago I figured I was down to one reader. I would say my dad took over and read my blog for my mom, but dad’s never been much into technology although he is now trying.

So, it is always a special treat when I get some feedback about the blog. This happened earlier this week. I received an email from a sweet woman who shared with me how my blog had helped her and her son.

Daniel is a young man getting ready to start playing Little League baseball. Baseball season where they live is still a few weeks away. He is extremely excited to begin playing ball and from the sounds of things has a little time on his hands. Like any baseball player who wants to be great, Daniel has been using the Internet to learn more about the game (and hopefully preserve some of mom’s sanity).

He somehow stumbled upon this blog and found the My Links page. There he found some of the baseball sites I thought were interesting and began reading those and learning more about the sport. He was especially fascinated with the history of the game and went through each site learning more and more.

Since my links site is in no way exhaustive, he was a little disappointed that there was not as much New York Yankees information as he would have liked (he is a Yankees fan which normally would make Diamondbacks fans cringe, but this kid is one of the good ones). He therefore decided to help me out and send me another cool link to add to my page.

I replied to the email thanking Daniel and his mom for taking time to visit my blog and for sending me the link. I eagerly added it to My Links page. It is called The Beginning of a Dynasty – Timeline of New York Yankees History. Besides posting the link I also went to the page.

Daniel was right, it definitely was interesting and deserved some time to digest the information. It brought to light the major points of the New York Yankees and as a fan it is always great to know a little bit more of what transpired to make the team what it is today.

I told Daniel’s mom I was also going to write this article. You see I think it was incredibly nice of him to take the time to contact me and show his appreciation for the work that bloggers do whether that was me or anyone else. It keeps us going when we might question if it is worth it to write these things.

But it also helps to remind us that being a diehard fan doesn’t mean you have to have a blog or write in it every day. Diehard fans live and breathe their passion and want to share that with everyone the come in contact with. So thanks Daniel for reminding me why I started this and thanks for the incredible link and life lesson.

Hopefully he has a successful Little League career and moves on. Who knows, maybe one day I will be chronicling how a young fan waiting for baseball season to begin wrote a note and now I just saw him on the field for the New York Yankees. Now that would be a story I would love to write.
